ACTION FOR PROTECTION OF ANIMALS AFRICA (APAA)
Securing animal welfare as a core African value.
ANIMALS ARE AT THE CENTRE OF ALL THE WORK WE DO.
Animals are sentient beings. They are aware of their feelings and emotions, whether good or bad. We therefore believe it to be our duty to recognise and respect this by ensuring that no harm comes to them, and that they can live a good, happy and healthy life.
OUR FOCUS AREAS

HOW WE WORK

Research
We’ll be investing in research to back our values, work and solutions. Specifically, we’ll be:
-
Undertaking citizen science research on the One Health, One Welfare concept and the interlinkage between animal welfare, human well-being, wildlife conservation and environment-health.
-
Providing evidence on the link between animal welfare and food production, zoonotic diseases, animal sentience, disasters, environment, ecosystems, and wildlife conservation.
-
Developing case studies to support public campaigns and policy advocacy around animal welfare.

Direct Action
We have a dedicated disaster response team that will deliver direct disaster response and train local government officials on disaster response.
When disaster strikes, we will be the rescue hands for animals

Public Campaigning
We will work with local communities and the public on targeted campaigns to move policy makers to enact policies, legislation and laws that promote animal welfare and protect animals. We will also campaign to have increased investments to make these policies work for animals.
We believe that we need people-power to move from policies on paper to practice on the ground.

Capacity Building
A big part of our work will be providing training in dog population management, disaster management, humane animal welfare in farming systems, and wildlife protection.

Policy Work
We will work with local communities and the public on targeted campaigns to move policy makers to enact policies, legislation and laws that promote animal welfare and protect animals. We will also campaign to have increased investments to make these policies work for animals.
We believe that we need people-power to move from policies on paper to practice on the ground.
